This 7 × 7 inch (17.8 × 17.8 cm) photomicrograph captures the structural beauty of a blue-spotted charaxes (Charaxes ameliae) wing under extreme magnification. The image showcases rows of overlapping, scales arranged like rows of shingles on a roof. Shifting shades of blue interact across the curved gradients of each layer, catching the light to create an iridescent texture.
