How images are made

A single photograph of a subject has limited enlargement capability. To get around this limitation, the photographs in this collection are made using a large number of close-up photographs that are combined to form a final image that can be enlarged many times without sacrificing detail. A thousand or more images are often combined to form a single photograph. These techniques enable a small subject such as an ant to be enlarged to the size of a human without loss of detail.

About Paedia Fine Arts

Douglas Clark is based in San Francisco, California, USA. His childhood curiosity about mechanical and electrical objects led him to a career in electrical engineering and materials science. Working at major, worldwide companies, he designed medical ultrasound and x-ray imaging systems and state-of-the-art photographic imaging and printing systems.

At Paedia Fine Arts, Doug has utilized his career experiences and know-how to produce beautiful, high resolution, high quality photographic images and prints of subjects rarely seen or noticed by a casual viewer. These images include micro and macro stills and videos of stomata, the tiny breathing pores of plants, insects of all kinds, x-rays of plants, and even colorful chemical reactions. He gets great joy from sharing these images with others and hearing their reactions to the beauty they see.
